At the 2013 Yom Hashoah Commemoration Here in Tulsa: The Kindertransport Rescue Movement of 1938-39

The Yom Hashoah Commemoration --- or Interfaith Holocaust Commemoration --- is an annual event sponsored by the Council for Holocaust Education, which is a committee of the Jewish Federation of Tulsa. Now being presented in its 16th year, this commemoration is likewise observed by numerous other Tulsa-area organizations, including the Circle Cinema and Tulsa City-County Library. (You'll find an informative write-up about this year's Yom Hashoah Commemoration at this link from the TCCL website.) The commemoration takes place tonight, Thursday the 11th, at 7pm at Congregation B'nai Emunah in Tulsa, near 17th and Peoria, and our guests on ST are the two keynote speakers for this free-to-the-public event: Kurt and Margaret Goldberger. The Goldbergers, who've been married for several decades, are both survivors of the so-called "Kindertransports," a series of rescue efforts in 1938 and '39 whereby nearly 10,000 Jewish children were relocated, without their parents, out of Nazi Germany, Austria, Poland, and Czechoslovakia, and delivered into safety, in Great Britain. The Goldbergers will speak tonight about their experiences as Kindertransport participants and beyond. They'll also talk about a nonprofit called The Kindertransport Association, which you can access online here.
