A former Tulsa County sheriff's major who says he was made a scapegoat in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man by a white volunteer deputy has dropped his lawsuit against the former sheriff.
Court documents first reported by the Tulsa World show the lawsuit by Tom Huckaby was dismissed Sept. 5 without prejudice, meaning it could be refiled.
The lawsuit alleged then-Sheriff Stanley Glanz forced Huckaby to resign under the threat of being fired in an effort to deflect criticism away from Glanz following the fatal shooting of Eric Harris in 2015 by volunteer Deputy Robert Bates.
Attorneys did not return phone calls Saturday seeking comment.
Bates was convicted of second-degree manslaughter in Harris' death. Glanz resigned following an investigation of the sheriff's office and pleaded no contest to failing to release information about Bates' training.
