Crowd Protests Betty Shelby Lecture

KWGS News

Protesters gather at the Tulsa Courthouse Plaza. They are there to protest a scheduled lecture by former Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby. The white Shelby is the officer accused of killing an unarmed black man, Terence Crutcher  in September of 2016 in north Tulsa.

She was acquitted of the crime in a racially charged trial. She left the Tulsa Police Department and is now a Reserve Deputy with Rogers County.

She is scheduled to teach a seminar to Tulsa County Deputies on how to ‘Survive the aftermath of a critical incident’.

Those protesting, including former Tulsa Police Chief Drew Diamond, feel the lecture reopens old community wounds and awards Shelby for her action.
