Here Comes Gordon

NHC

Areas of rain will continue this morning mainly in areas west of Highway 75 as a weak upper level low continues to drift north. Local rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible across western portions of Osage and Pawnee Counties. Additional scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will develop later today in the very moist airmass residing over eastern Oklahoma and parts of western Arkansas. Occasional lightning and localized heavy rainfall will be the main threats with any thunderstorms. Deep tropical moisture will remain across eastern Oklahoma and northwestern Arkansas into the upcoming weekend. This will result in a continuation of daily shower and thunderstorm development, mostly during the afternoon and evening hours, through Sunday. Depending on the exact track of Tropical Storm Gordon that is located off the western Florida coast this morning, the coverage and intensity of rainfall may increase over portions western Arkansas and perhaps eastern Oklahoma Thursday through Saturday. Heavy rainfall and flooding will be possible near and east of the track of the remnants of the tropical system. A cold front is expected to push into the area from the north on Thursday, and this would also increase the shower and thunderstorm coverage late this week and early this weekend.
