Investigation into Fatal Central Oklahoma Police Shooting

Google Street View

Five central Oklahoma law officers are on paid leave after fatally shooting a man suspected of stealing a pickup truck.

Canadian County Sheriff Chris West says the man was shot Monday when he got out of the truck with a handgun after crashing the vehicle near Okarche, about 30 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.

The man's name has not been released.

West says the man was suspected of stealing a vehicle in Oklahoma City, then later abandoning it and stealing the truck.

West says about a dozen law officers joined the chase at speeds of 100 miles per hour.

West said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
