In "Reluctant Minivan," Poet Quraysh Ali Lansana Explores Fatherhood, Mentorhood, and Related Themes

Aired on Thursday, May 1st.

Today, we welcome Quraysh Ali Lansana back to StudioTulsa. Lansana was born Ron Myles in Enid, Oklahoma, and originally worked in broadcast journalism here in our state before studying poetry and literature in New York and Chicago. He's written several books of poetry, edited or co-edited several anthologies, and works as an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Chicago State University. He also teaches at writing workshops and literary events all over the country. He'll be reading from and signing copies of his newest book of poems --- a chapbook entitled "Reluctant Minivan" --- on Saturday the 3rd at 8pm at the Living Arts Space in downtown Tulsa. He'll also lead a couple of poetry-writing workshops at Living Arts in the near future, on Monday the 5th (for teen writers) and Thursday the 8th (for adults). You can learn more about Lansana's upcoming engagements here in our community at this link. Also on today's ST, now that springtime is clearly and refreshingly in the air, our commentator Collin Hinds has a critique of the standardized testing required in Oklahoma's public schools.
