SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) — Sallisaw Police Chief Shaloa Edwards is facing a felony embezzlement charge over an allegation that he borrowed and repaid $60 from the department's petty cash.
Edwards turned himself in on Friday. He was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail and released on bond.
The Sallisaw City Commission in February suspended Edwards for 90 days and put City Manager Bill Baker in charge. Baker then named Captain Beau Gabbert to oversee daily department operations.
Edwards sued the city in March, claiming he was improperly suspended.
Voters first elected Edwards as chief in 2005.
