StudioTulsa on Health: In Conversation with Gail Lapidus, CEO of Family & Children's Services

Aired on Thursday, December 20th.

On this installment of ST, we debut an ongoing series of occasional, health-related interviews called StudioTulsa on Health. In this series, guest host Dr. John Schumann of OU-Tulsa, who's also a regular commentator for our program, will discuss matters of health care, health policy, and healthy living with people from throughout our community --- and, moreover, with individuals from throughout the wider fields of medicine and medical scholarship (whether they're active in these fields nationally or globally). Today, John speaks with Gail Lapidus, who's been working at Family & Children’s Services in Tulsa since the 1970s, and who was appointed the Executive Director / CEO of that agency in 1986. Family & Children’s Services is one of this community's largest human service providers, working with more than 110,000 individuals annually, or about one in six Tulsans. From helping families in crisis, to serving people struggling with mental illness, addiction, and homelessness, F&CS is known and respected for its many efforts to assist the people of Northeastern Oklahoma. Lapidus describes some of these efforts on this edition of our show --- including F&CS's recently created (and widely celebrated) Women in Recovery program. (F&CS is a non-profit Tulsa Area United Way Partner Agency that began in 1925 as the Family Welfare Society of Tulsa; you can learn more about this agency here.)
