East Tulsa businesses may soon get a knock on the door from the Tulsa Police Department. A rash of mail thefts in east Tulsa has Police Financial Crimes Detectives going door-to-door in office complexes warning of the danger.
The department is hand-delivering letters warning of mail-theft that has been taking place. Officer Jillian Roberson says the letter is a reminder of the importance of securing your mail. “The Financial Crimes Unit has seen a trend regarding mail theft from unsecured mailboxes in business complexes. The letter is a reminder of the importance of securing your mail and will provide a few helpful tips on how you can protect your mail from thieves.”
Officer Roberson says while mail theft can happen anywhere, they have seen a rash of cases in east Tulsa.
- Promptly remove mail from your mailbox after delivery, especially if you're expecting checks, credit cards, or other negotiable items. If you won't be home when the items are expected, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your mail.
- If you don't receive a check or other valuable mail you're expecting, contact the issuing agency immediately.
- Always deposit your mail in a mail slot at your local post office, or hand it to your letter carrier.
