The Tulsa Artist Fellowship is looking for its next cohort.
"Art is here to stay, and by bringing in different varieties of artists, whether they be visual artists or writers, it gives the community — any community — strength," said TAF Program Manager Julia White.
A dozen visual artists recently arrived in Tulsa for the fellowship. White said they’re looking for 15 artists for 2017.
"We are searching for public and gallery-oriented art, so that can be anything from large-scale to ceramics and in between," White said.
In addition to having funding for more visual artists, the fellowship has expanded to include writers, too. Up to 15 writers will be accepted for a two-year fellowship, which includes housing in the Brady Arts District and an unrestricted stipend.
White said many writers fellowships are just a few months long.
"Having the opportunity where writers can focus — we wanted to give them the opportunity to be in one location, focus and not have stresses that often come with writer's block," White said.
Some of the artist spots will be reserved for Native American, Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian artists.
Applications for writers and visual artists are due March 4 and can be found at the Tulsa Artist Fellowship website. 2017 fellows will be announced June 1.
