Positive Space Tulsa announces its inaugural gallery exhibition featuring the work of Tulsa artist and contemporary figurative painter, Anne Pollard James (she/her/hers). Entitled Surfacing, Pollard James’s first solo exhibit will include her newest work exploring womanhood. She is interested in “the many ways women must navigate the spaces that surround them and take the space wanted in a place, made for and by men who really just want to keep women out.”

Surfacing will open 5-9pm, Thursday, September 15, 2022, and continue through October 27, 2022. Additional public programming will be announced. Gallery hours during the exhibit: Thurs, 6-8pm; Fri, 5-9pm; Sat, 12pm-5pm and by appointment.

Positive Space Tulsa is located at 1324 East 3rd Street, just east of Peoria Avenue on the south side of 3rd Street in the Pearl District. The gallery is barrier free throughout with an all gender, wheelchair accessible bathroom. Service animals are welcome. Masks are encouraged for non-vaccinated individuals.

Positive Space Tulsa was founded by local artist, Nicole Finley (she/her/hers). An art space dedicated to womxn* artists - the first and only in Oklahoma - Positive Space Tulsa has an exhibition space, three artist studios, and an outdoor space for gathering, exhibiting and studio artist creative work.

*Positive Space Tulsa believes: The letter “x” in womxn recognizes all women, including gender expansive identities. Positive Space Tulsa is for women, nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, and agender artists (excluding those who identify as male/men). Womxn is pronounced the same as woman or women.
