Fallin, Cornett Both to Speak at GOP Convention

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Republican National Convention will have a distinct Oklahoma flavor, with both Gov. Mary Fallin and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett scheduled to speak.

Party officials announced Monday that Cornett is expected to address the convention in Tampa, Fla., at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Fallin is scheduled to speak between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Cornett is currently the president of the national Republican Mayors and Local Officials organization and is serving his third term as mayor of the state's largest city. He and Fallin ran against each other in a Republican primary in 2006 for the open 5th District congressional seat that Fallin won.

Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell says Cornett's selection is a reminder the state has "nationally recognized leadership at every level of Oklahoma government."
