Storm Aftermath

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK –

Thousands without power as storm lingers in Okla.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Utility crews have been making progress in restoring electricity to thousands of homes and businesses that lost service when a deadly winter storm dumped snow, sleet and ice on Oklahoma.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, nearly 151,000 customers were without power at 9:15 p.m. Friday, down from the peak of more than 179,000.

Officials said a power outage was responsible for the death of a 70-year-old Ada woman and the injury of her husband when a propane tank they were using to heat their home exploded.

The National Weather Service estimated the storm has dumped 8 to 10 inches of snow in Garfield County, 5 to 8 inches in the Norman area and 4 to 6 inches around Oklahoma City.
