The Tulsa City Council approves a $110,000 settlement in a lawsuit. It stems from a fatal shooting involving a police officer. It happened in 2009.
The council approved the settlement after Assistant City Attorney Gerald Bender said it would have cost up to $60,000 to provide expert testimony at trial.
Brandi Cox’s son was injured in the shooting and husband, Steven Paul Crowels, was killed.
Authorities say officer Jay Chiarito-Mazzarella fired on the vehicle after the driver put the car in reverse and tried to run him over.
Prosecutors ruled that the shooting was justified but an internal investigation found that the officer violated tactical and training policies.
