Wild Fire Contained

ANADARKO, Okla. (AP) — Firefighters have contained a large grass fire that forced the evacuation of about dozen homes west of Anadarko.

Caddo County Emergency Management Director Larry McDuffey said Monday night crews were attending to areas of the fire that were still smoldering and residents were being allowed to return to their homes. McDuffey says there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to structures.

He says some customers lost power when three electric poles burned, but crews were replacing the poles.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Oklahoma Highway 9 was closed between Caddo County Road 2620 and U.S. Highway 62 because of blowing smoke.

The National Weather Service had issued a Red Flag fire warning for the western half of the state because of hot, dry and windy conditions.
