Speed, Alcohol Blamed in Fatal Grand Lake Crash

KWGS News File photo

JAY, Okla. (AP) — A preliminary report from the Grand River Dam Authority says alcohol and excessive speed contributed to a fatal boat crash on Grand Lake in July.

Four people were in the 20-foot boat when it hit a breakwater structure near the Arrowhead Yacht Club area on the Duck Creek arm of Grand Lake.

Authorities say 39-year-old Monte Price was thrown from the boat after the collision. His body was found 12 hours later.

The Oklahoman reports the group was cruising on the lake after a wedding. The report says Grand River Dam Authority police had stopped the boat about two hours before the collision for not following lake rules.

The report says the boat was speeding and that opened and unopened beer cans were found in and near the boat.
