OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma has received two new listings on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office says The Acre Family Barn near Canton in Blaine County has been placed on the nation's premiere list of properties considered significant to the country's past. The barn dates to about 1916 and was selected for its architectural merit.

Also placed on the list for its architectural merit is The United Founders Life Tower in northwestern Oklahoma City. The highly individual mid-twentieth century high-rise building showcases rare building forms and details, like its folded plate roof system and cantilevered balconies.

Listing on the National Register provides recognition, limited protection and, in some cases, financial incentives for important properties.
