Arkansas River Levee Needs a Fix

KWGS News Photo
The Arkansas River at downtown Tulsa

The levee along the Arkansas River in West Tulsa County can’t meet tougher safety certification regulations. Some of the drainage equipment is World War Two era and must be replaced. County Commissioner Karen Keith says it’s an expensive proposition…possibly costing more than $20-million.

She says the county is working with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency on the problem.
