New Case of Hepatitis Reported in Dentist Scare

KWGS News File Photo

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — One new case of hepatitis has been found in an ongoing health scare involving thousands of patients of a Tulsa oral surgeon whose clinics were found to be unsanitary.

The Tulsa Health Department says that 74 patients of Doctor W. Scott Harrington have tested positive so far for hepatitis C. Five patients have tested positive for hepatitis B and three for HIV.

There's no indication the diseases spread at his clinics and health experts have cautioned that the spread of disease in dental clinics is extremely rare.

More than 4,000 of Harrington's patients have been tested after inspectors said they found unsanitary conditions at his clinics at Tulsa and Owasso.

Harrington is cooperating with the investigation.
