Man Convicted in Kellyville Crash Dies in Jail

A sign welcomes travelers along Route-66 to Kellyville, Oklahoma.

SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) — State authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Creek County jail in Sapulpa.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says it was asked Tuesday by the county sheriff's office to investigate the death of 53-year-old David Ernst. The OSBI says Ernst was found dead Tuesday morning near the shower area in the Creek County Criminal Justice Center.

Ernst was convicted last week of first-degree manslaughter for a traffic crash that killed four Kellyville residents.

Authorities told reporters that it is believed Ernst hanged himself and that his body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
