Foster Child of Sand Springs Officer Downs in Family Pool

Sand Springs PD

Officers with the Sand Springs Police Department were sent to the 500 block of Overholt Drive in Sand Springs, in reference to the drowning of a two year old child.  Upon arrival, Fire and EMSA
crews advised that the child had been pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the responding officers was the foster parent of the drowned child. Police say  his wife was at home with the children when she noticed  the child had been able to make it outside and was in the in ground swimming pool. The foster-mother retrieved the child from the pool and attempted CPR.

The officer and his wife were the foster parents to 3 children at the time of this incident. The victim and one of the other children were related. The children were all placed in this home by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

This situation is currently under investigation by the Sand Springs Police Department as well as DHS. The medical examiner will make the ruling as to the cause of death. The DHS removed the two other children pending results of this investigation.
