RUFE, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says a man was killed and two law officers were wounded in a shootout in southeast Oklahoma.

The OSBI says 51-year-old Joseph Potts was killed shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday near the town of Rufe. The agency says a Choctaw County deputy and a Hugo police officer suffered multiple gunshot wounds when Potts opened fire on them. The officers' names and conditions were not released.

The OSBI says deputies were called about 5:30 a.m. because of a man shooting at neighbors. The agency says a team of officers arrived about four hours later and Potts opened fire and wounded two officers as they approached his home.

The OSBI says Potts then set fire to the home, walked outside and tried to grab an officer's gun and was shot.
