TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Airmen with the Oklahoma Air National Guard's 125th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron are preparing for deployment to Japan.

The Oklahoma Air Guard says about 200 airmen and 12 F-16 jets will leave in mid-October for Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, to support the U.S. Pacific Command Theater Security Package. The Air Force routinely deploys force packages of fighters to Guam, Japan and the Republic of Korea to help maintain a deterrent against threats to regional security and stability.

The commander of the 125th EFS — Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Bertelli said this is the first time the force has been deployed to the Pacific Theater after 10 previous deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
