Love County Sheriff Voluntarily Suspends Himself From Office

love_county.png

Love County Sheriff Joe Russell has voluntarily suspended himself from office as a criminal case is pending against him.

Russell was arrested last month after Oklahoma's multi-county grand jury recommended he be removed from office for corruption and other alleged violations. He's pleaded not guilty to charges of maintaining a drug house and harboring a fugitive.

In court Tuesday, District Judge Wallace Coppedge also issued a gag order in the case, preventing attorneys and others involved from speaking publicly about it.

An Oct. 3 jury trial is set on whether Russell should be removed from office.
