Tulsa Council Hears Sidewalk Cafe Permit Proposal

Brewbrooks-Wikimedia

If the Tulsa City Council approves a plan for regulating sidewalk cafes, the council would be removing itself from most of the process. A council committee heard such a proposal today.

The Mayor’s Chief of Community Development is Nick Doctor. He says the council would set the guidelines and then it would be up to the planning department to grant a permit to a café. A café operator would have the right to appeal a decision to the City Council IF there is a conflict.

The plan is modeled after Seattle’s. It calls for a five foot right-of-way for pedestrians to pass.
