Justin Townes Earle On Mountain Stage

Justin Townes Earle performs on Mountain Stage.

Singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle makes his second appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown. Backed by his own band — which includes Paul Niehaus on pedal steel, Vince Ilagan on upright bass and Jon Radford on drums — Earle plays songs from his new album, Nothing's Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now.

Earle's early songwriting drew comparisons to heavyweights like Bruce Springsteen, Arlo Guthrie and his own father, Steve Earle, but fans quickly recognized his original voice as a musician. He earned the designation Emerging Artist of the Year from the Americana Music Association in 2009, and won its Song of the Year award in 2011, for the title cut from Harlem River Blues.

Justin Townes Earle's most recent album was recorded live over the course of four days at an old converted church in Asheville, N.C. The record includes contributions from guitarist Jason Isbell and fiddler Amanda Shires.

This Mountain Stage performance originally aired on September 17, 2012.
