88 Oklahomans Dead from COVID-19, State About to Break 1,800 Cases

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported eight new deaths from COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of deaths since March 18 to 88.

There were also 110 new cases reported Friday, the sixth-highest single-day increase so far. The state's total number of cases now stands at 1,794.

Seven of the eight deaths reported Friday were adults over 65. The eighth was in the 50–64 age group.

State health department numbers reported Friday showed either 427 or 428 people have been hospitalized during the outbreak.

Oklahoma County still has the most cases in the state with 413, and it now has the most deaths with 17. Tulsa County had six additional cases reported Friday. Its total is now 314 with 16 dead.

There are still 16 counties without reported cases of the illness.

The state health department is now reporting COVID-19 cases and deaths by race. That data shows 65% of cases and 78.8% of deaths are among whites. In roughly 20% of cases, however, the patient's race is not reported.

State officials say more than 22,200 tests have now been administered
