Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility Going Up at St. John's Broken Arrow Campus

Prevarian Senior Living

St. John’s Broken Arrow is the site of an assisted living facility now under construction.

Prairie House will also include a memory care unit for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Allan Brown with Prevarian Senior Living said residents will have constant access to St. John physicians because the facility will be on the hospital campus at Albany and Elm streets.

"Seeing assisted living being built on a hospital campus really reflects remarkable foresight by St. John," Brown said. "You just don't see it very often, and it's going to be a national example."

The facility will be able to help couples where one person needs memory care but the other doesn’t. Brown said they also know women usually live longer and outnumber men in assisted living three-to-one.

"You see oftentimes as well, sisters or cousins choose to live together," Brown said. "So, we have two-bedroom options in assisted living as well as one-bedroom and smaller — we call them 'alcove' — apartment options."

There will be 95 apartment-style units for assisted living and memory care. The facility will also have lounge areas, a wellness center, craft rooms — even a salon and spa.

Brown said the assisted living industry has shifted to a hospitality focus in the last 15 to 20 years.

"We really want to create a community that allows these residents to move in and have everything that they need in the community without having to leave the community," Brown said.

The 93,000-square foot facility should open by November 2016.
