A Celebration of ECM Records: Part 3 of 3 (on the Next Broadcast of All This Jazz)

Catch the next All This Jazz, starting at 9pm on Saturday the 24th, right here on KWGS-FM / Public Radio Tulsa.

On this edition of ATJ, we'll conclude our three-episode tribute to (and retrospective of) ECM Records, as in Edition of Contemporary Music, which was founded in Germany 50 years ago and thus far has released some 1,600 albums. And which is also, without a doubt, still going strong -- and still sounding excellent!

As one New York Times critic noted in 2017: “Sound quality has always mattered to Manfred Eicher, the meticulous and exploratory producer who founded ECM [in] 1969 and has produced the vast majority of its recordings. ECM has released an extraordinary catalog that encompasses jazz, classical music, and cross-cultural fusions from composers and performers like Keith Jarrett, Vijay Iyer, Arvo Pärt, and Meredith Monk. Across styles, the label’s hallmark has been the contemplative detail of its music, a kind of acoustic enhanced realism.”

And so, our program’s 3rd and thematic hour, running from 11pm till midnight, will lovingly spotlight ECM’s sonic “realism” as documented by such jazz-world notables as Mr. Jarrett, Mr. Iyer, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Ralph Alessi, and more. (And elsewhere in our show, listen for Tierney Sutton, Wes Montgomery, Branford Marsalis, Joe Zawinul, Rosemary Clooney, and more.)

Tune in, fellow jazz buffs! Every Saturday night, both online and over the air, we deliver both recent and classic jazz…across a wide range of styles. Indeed, All This Jazz is delighted by modern (and post-modern!) jazz in its many forms, and we dig sharing the same with our listeners. Finally, note that ATJ playlist info can be found here, at the bottom of the page...and that we maintain a Facebook page for our show. Thank you for listening.

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
