Oklahoma City, OK – Corporation Commission offers buyouts

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Workers at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission are being offered voluntary buyouts to help ease a budget crisis.

Agency employees were told Friday to inform their division directors by Tuesday if they want to participate in the buyout plan.

It's one in a series of steps officials are taking to slash expenses after learning the agency expects to have about $2.3 million less to spend in the fiscal year that begins on Wednesday than it has had this year.

Brooks Mitchell, the commission's director of administration, has said employees also will be furloughed one day a month beginning some time before January 1. A starting date for the furloughs has not been set.

The buyout is expected to cost $1,112,800 and result in savings of $175,000 for fiscal year 2010.
