Council Hears About Female Arrests in Tulsa

KWGS News/City of Tulsa

The Tulsa City Council continued its deep-dive into the city’s Equality Indicators. Last night, the council heard from the public on the higher than normal female arrest rate.

A woman is twice as likely to be arrested in Tulsa than the national average. That woman is nearly three times as likely to be Black.

The council heard from five speakers last evening, including 39-year-old D’Marria Monday. She served time for drug offenses. Monday told the Council that it should look to the women affected for possible solutions to the problem.

The Council will continue the discussion with a panel of experts on September 25th. That meeting will be at the Performing Arts Center.
