Weeks after a 22-year-old assistant manager at a Tulsa location of the Oklahoma-based convenience store and gas station chain QuikTrip died of COVID-19, the company has announced it is seeking to hire new assistant managers for its Tulsa stores.
"We look forward to expanding our hometown team of employees in the Tulsa area with hardworking, service-oriented people," a company representative said in a press release.
Israel Sauz of Tulsa had just become a father when he died of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus earlier this month. Sauz worked at the QuikTrip at the corner East 11th Street and South Utica Avenue in Tulsa. He remains one of the youngest Oklahomans known to have died from the virus.
Following Sauz's death, QuikTrip CEO Chet Cadieux III said in an email to employees that the company would provide assistance to Sauz's surviving family, but said the details of that support were not appropriate to make public.
A QuikTrip employee told the Tulsa World that the company was failing its employees and prioritizing profits over employee safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company's hiring press release says QuikTrip is looking to hire store clerks and assistant managers for both full- and part-time positions.
