John Mackey and the Norman Philharmonic on Performance Oklahoma

Composer John Mackey, joined the Norman Philharmonic for several days of rehearsals and educational programs involving the Norman Public Schools.  His residency culminated in a full length concert marking the start of the orchestra's third season and was presented on Sunday, September 15th at the Nancy O'Brian Center for the Performing Arts in Norman.  The program, the third in the ensemble's "Meet the Composer" series offered three works by Mackey:  Harvest: Concerto for Trombone featuring principal trombonist John Allen, Redline Tango and Antiphonal Dances as well as American

Salute by Morton Gould, Franz Joseph Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante showcasing four soloists:  concertmaster Michael Sutton, principal cellist Valerie Tatge, principal oboist Dan Schwatz and principal bassoonist Rodney Ackmann and the Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. 

Performance Oklahoma presents this concert with commentary from John Mackey, trombonist John Allen and Artistic Director Richard Zielinski on Saturday, October 9th and October 12 at 8pm over Classical 88.7-1 KWTU!
