The American Red Cross presents its certificate of merit to Mayor Bartlett. The presentation was made today at City Hall for the awareness the mayor has brought in the need for CPR certification. He was the only one who knew CPR when a customer in a restaurant suffered from a heart attack recently.

"I'm surely not looking for any notoriety on this other than to ask people to strongly consider getting CPR training"

The certificate was signed by President Obama and the chairman of the American Red Cross.

"The training now does not require anybody to give air to an individual by breathing through their mouth. That's not part of the deal anymore. It's simply put two hands on a person's chest and compress it rapidly in a method that is taught by certified instructors."

Mayor Bartlett first learned CPR while serving in the Oklahoma Air National Guard back in the 1970s.
