On the Next All This Jazz: "The Less-Familiar Ellington"

Here's hoping you'll tune in for the next installment of All This Jazz, which begins at 10pm Central on June 29th, right here on Public Radio 89.5-1. As ever, we'll offer two hours of outstanding modern jazz, both recent and classic, right up till midnight.

Also, please note that this particular offering will be a re-broadcast of a program that originally aired in December of 2010. It's a great show, with positively top-drawer jazz music from start to finish. And the second-theme is especially fine --- it's "The Less-Familiar Ellington."

Everyone knows (and obviously loves) such classic Edward Kennedy Ellington tunes as "Mood Indigo" and "'A' Train" and "Caravan." But in the second half of our 6-29-13 program, we'll hear several less well-known --- yet still outstanding --- pieces from the Duke's majestic songbook, among them "Portrait of Wellman Braud" and "Jump for Joy" (as rendered by the likes of Stefon Harris and Chris Connor).

So...join us! And remember --- it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that you-know-what.

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
