Join us Saturday the 21st at 10pm, right here on Public Radio 89.5, for another happy-go-lucky installment of All This Jazz (with a contemporaneous online stream of the show at PublicRadioTulsa.org).
Each week, ATJ spins modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles. We also offer, every Sunday night, a 7pm re-airing of the show on Jazz 89.5-2, which is our station's all-jazz HD Radio channel.
It's two solid hours of music -- an irresistible anthology of all-killer-no-filler tunes, in fact, which you'll find nowhere else on Tulsa radio -- and in the second half of ATJ, we always offer a theme.
This time around -- in honor of the 87th Academy Awards, which of course will air "live" on Sunday night (the 22nd) -- our theme will be Jazz Goes to the Movies. And so we'll hear excerpts from bona fide film scores by the likes of saxist Sonny Rollins (in 1966) and drummer Antonio Sanchez (in 2014), as well as jazz themes stemming from such immortal movies as "Swing Time" (1936) and "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951), to cite just a couple. And in the first half of our show, we'll dig music from bassist David Finck, trumpeter Eddie Henderson, and many more.
Tune in, jazz fans. You, too, cinema buffs. (You know who you are. And you'll undoubtedly be glad you flipped us on.)
