On the Next ATJ, We'll Hear Jazz Greats Paying Tribute (and Playing in Tribute) to Other Jazz Greats

Come on along for the forthcoming edition of All This Jazz, beginning at 10pm on Saturday the 30th, right here on Public Radio 89.5-1. (We'll also gladly offer, as always, a 7pm re-airing of ATJ on Sunday the 1st on Jazz 89.5-2, which is our station's terrific all-jazz HD Radio channel.)

Each and every week, our show presents modern jazz, both recent and classic...from Basie, Brubeck, and Baker to Terence Blanchard, Richie Beirach, and Carla Bley. Also, the second half of our two-hour program always carries a "theme."

For this installment of ATJ --- which is actually an encore presentation of a show that originally aired back in April --- our second-hour theme will be Jazz Greats Saluting Other Jazz Greats.

And so, as we enjoy an opportunity to kick back and relax (and digest) in the wake of the Great American Holiday that is Thanksgiving, we'll hear several stand-out practitioners of this Great American Music paying tribute to the jazz masters who've inspired or influenced them. We'll dig Sonny Fortune playing a lovely piece for Billie Holiday, Christian McBride offering homage to Cedar Walton, Muhal Richard Abrams (shown herewith) nodding to Johnny Griffin, and more.

Please join us.

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
