"We are such stuff / As dreams are made on," as Shakespeare announces in The Tempest. And Sam Spade, the hard-boiled private eye at the center of The Maltese Falcon, famously refers to the eponymous, priceless, black-bird statuette as "the stuff that dreams are made of."
On the forthcoming edition of All This Jazz, we'll hear several music-rooted meditations on the stuff of our dreams --- that is, "dreams" will be the collective second-hour theme for our show, which begins on Saturday the 2nd at 10pm Central on Public Radio 89.5-1. (Plus, there will be a re-broadcast of this program on Sunday the 3rd at 7pm on Jazz 89.5-2, our all-jazz HD Radio channel.)
Of course, we're certain to catch a few pop standards along the lines of "You Stepped Out of a Dream" and "I Had the Craziest Dream," but we'll also take a listen to "There in a Dream" (by Charlie Haden), "The Frisell Dream" (by Dave Douglas), and "Dream Sketch" (by Brad Mehldau, and from his recent and excellent album called Ode).
Join us, fellow jazz fans...for life is but a you-know-what.
