Hope you can catch the next edition of All This Jazz, airing on Saturday the 6th at 10pm, right here on Public Radio 89.5 (with a 7pm rebroadcast of the show on Jazz 89.5-2, our station's jazz-only HD Radio channel, on Sunday the 7th).
In honor of the Tony Awards -- to be presented on Sunday night, in a ceremony airing live on CBS television -- our second-hour theme on ATJ will be Show Tunes. And so we'll hear a variety of past and present jazz heroes and heroines doing songs from such great Broadway musicals as "Oklahoma!," "Into the Woods," "The King and I," and "On the Town." (These last two cited productions, by the way, are both nominated for a Tony this year in the Best Revival of a Musical category. Plus we'll hear a couple of lovely Gershwin themes that both appear in the newly staged version of "An American in Paris," which is nominated for Best Musical.)
And in the first hour of our program, tune in for stellar pieces by, among others, Dexter Gordon, Julius Hemphill, and Buddy Rich, along with a cut from the brand-new (and terrific-sounding) album by pianist Kenny Barron and vibist Mark Sherman.
It's modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles. And it's yours for the taking every Saturday night, from 10pm till midnight. It's All This Jazz.
(PS: We're on Facebook, if that happens to appeal to you, and we also live-stream the show at the Public Radio Tulsa website. Also, our latest playlist data can be found here. Thank you.)
