North Tulsa is Closer to a New Middle School

TPS/KWGS News

The Tulsa School District moves forward with a plan to turn the William Penn Elementary School and the Monroe Demonstration Academy into a new middle school. It would feed McLain High School.

Even though the recommendation came from a community task force, School Superintendent Deborah Gist says she understands why school patrons are nervous. She says years of failed promises has eroded community trust.

Final approval will be on the February 19th agenda. If approved the school would open next August. The current ‘enrollment-challenged’ McLain 7th Grade Center would then close. Rather than just one grade, the new school would house 6th, 7th and 8thgraders.
