Tulsa, OK – Today on our program, we are joined by Catherine Whitney and Christina Burke, two curators employed at the Philbrook Museum of Art here in Tulsa. Whitney and Burke are the co-curators of "Black on Black & White: The Southwest of Laura Gilpin and Maria Martinez," a newly opened exhibit that will be on view at Philbrook through April 15th. This exhibit presents works by two widely celebrated American artists, the photographer Laura Gilpin (1891-1979) and the potter Maria Martinez (1887-1980). These women were, as we learn on today's ST, collaborators, artistic trail-blazers, contemporaries, and friends. This Philbrook-generated show pairs over 40 photographs (which were taken over four decades) with dozens of ceramics that have been drawn from the museum's extensive holdings as well as its Eugene B. Adkins Collection. (For more information: www.philbrook.org/blackandwhite.)
