NPR's Winter 2018 Olympics Coverage

On Friday, February 9, the Winter Olympics begins in Pyeongchang, South Korea amidst allegations of doping, corruption and growing tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. It's the first of three straight Olympic competitions to be hosted in Asia (Tokyo in 2020 and Beijing in 2022).

NPR will have five journalists in South Korea documenting the precision and determination it takes to compete in the Games, which run from February 9-25, 2018. Hear the coverage on NPR newscasts and in-depth reports and two-ways on NPR's newsmagazines. NPR has also revived the popular Olympic blog The Torch for online coverage.

South Korea-based correspondent Elise Hu is already providing the latest news on preparation for the Games, including the politics involved, infrastructure, lagging ticket sales and local anticipation. Elise will also help cover the competition. Bill Chappell will be in Pyeongchang covering the Games for digital, along with veteran sports correspondent Tom Goldman and special correspondent Melissa Block. Russell Lewis will serve as on-site editor, producer and reporter.

In collaboration with other Member stations across the country, the coverage includes lead-up stories to profile the athletes and the sports.
