OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A report commissioned by Oklahoma's energy industry shows one out of six jobs in the state is generated by oil and gas production.
The report released Wednesday by economists at Oklahoma City University shows the state's economy continues to be driven by oil and gas production.
The report's author, economist Russell Evans, says the industry has added nearly 12,000 jobs over the last two years, helping Oklahoma return almost completely to its prerecession job peak. The report also notes that the state's tax on the production of oil and natural gas alone accounts for 12 percent of the money the state appropriates each year.
The report was commissioned by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board, a group funded by oil and gas producers and mineral owners.
