Tulsa, Oklahoma – Our guest today is Ahmed Rashid, whom Christopher Hitchens has called "Pakistan's best and bravest reporter." Rashid is also a bestselling author, and his book, "Descent into Chaos: The U.S. and the Disaster in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia," has just been published in a newly revised and expanded paperback edition. After 9/11, Rashid's crucial book "Taliban" introduced a great many Americans to that now-infamous outfit. In "Descent into Chaos," he presents a fierce and exceptionally articulate critique of U.S. policy and practice in Central Asia. Also on today's show: Ian Shoales has a typically zany yet focused commentary on the current economic crisis.
