Performance Oklahoma - Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble Concert 4

Performance Oklahoma returns to the airwaves in this new Fall season with a brand new lineup of programs showcasing the high caliber, richness and variety of classical music performances taking place across our state. We've begun our journey together with the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble now marking their 14th season and offering their fifth chamber music festival this past June celebrating "The Music of Vienna.

Over four weeks in September, we'll hear all four concerts presented at the Festival and this week, we'll enjoy Concert 4, given on Tuesday, June 14th, all performances taking place at 7:30pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Oklahoma City. From the Viennese tradition of 18th and early 19th century wind ensemble music, four works for wind octet are featured in the final concert of the Festival. As composers began to write increasingly for wind instruments, it became common practice to utilize oboes, clarinets, bassoons and horns in pairs. Harmonie became a pervasive term to describe wind music in general and specifically a body of music written roughly between 1760-1837, the primary function of which was to provide social entertainment. In this week's program, we’ll hear four works from the Viennese Harmonie tradition: Harmoniemusik from two operas of Mozart, Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, the early Rondino in E-flat Major by Beethoven and the Partita in F Major by Franz Krommer.

This program airs Saturday, October 1st, 8pm on Classical 88.7-HD1
