Performance Oklahoma: The Thirteen Chamber Choir

Founded in 2012 and specializing in the masterpieces of the Renaissance and Baroque, The Thirteen Chamber Choirhas garnered a reputation for inspired and powerful live performances.  On tour this past fall across the American Midwest and Great Plains, The Thirteen were guests in residence at UCO’s College of Fine Arts and Design, hosted by the Choral Department at the School of Music, in partnership with the Brisch Center for Historical Performance, the Edmond Community Chorale and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.  Offering a series of events across the two day residency, the ensemble appeared in concert on Monday, November 9th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Edmond, presenting a program entitled “Music of the Past for Musicians of the Future:  Innovation and Brilliance:  Sound-Sculptures from the Franco-Flemish School.”  Artistic Director Matthew Robertson and two ensemble singers, soprano Amy Broadbent and tenor Jeffrey Cutts offer insightful commentary in this special program exploring the art of singing works from composers who dominated the music scene in the 15th and 16th centuries in northern Europe. And, The Thirteen offer performances of a diverse grouping of pieces by Orlande de Lassus, Johannes Ockeghem, Josquin des Prez, Nicolas Gombert, Jacob Obrecht, Antoine Brumel, Guillaume Dufay and Guillaume de Machaut!

Several ensembles participating in residency events are also featured in the concert performance program including the UCO Chamber Singers conducted by Karl Nelson, the Classen School of Advanced Studies Madrigal Chorus led by Rebecca Lindley and the Norman North High School Chamber Choir directed by Matthew Johnson.

This program airs Saturday, January 30th, 8pm, on Classical 88.7 HD-1.
