Route 66 Name Change DOA

file photo

Two state senators are quickly backing away from an idea renaming a section of Route 66 “The Donald Trump Highway”.

Senators Nathan Dahm and Marty Quinn were roundly criticized for the idea.  The Oklahoma Route 66 Association and state tourism officials were among those opposed to the name charge.

The road section was not in either lawmakers’ district. Route 66 is often referred to as the “Mother Road”, a title given by author John Steinbeck in the “Grapes of Wrath”.  In the early 50s, it was named “The Will Rogers Highway” after the late Oklahoma humorist.
