ST on Health: Meet Olympic Medalist, Oklahoma Native, and Cancer Survivor Shannon Miller

Mar 17, 2015

On this edition of ST on Health, we speak by phone with seven-time Olympic medalist and Oklahoma native Shannon Miller, who will give the keynote address at the 11th Annual Celebrating the Art of Healing Symposium here in Tulsa on Saturday, March 28th, at St. John Medical Center (near 19th and Utica). This symposium is free to the public, and it's open to cancer survivors as well as the families, friends, and medical professionals who care for them. (Please note that advance registration is required for this event; to learn more about the symposium, or to register, please visit this link.) As we learn on today's show, Miller was, back in 2011, diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer that typically strikes women in their teens and early 20s. And since the theme of this year's Celebrating the Art of Healing Symposium is "Finding Balance in 2015," Miller intends to speak about her experiences -- as an Olympic athlete, a wife and mother, a cancer survivor, and a health/wellness expert -- with an overall emphasis on finding a balance between mind, body, and spirit throughout the cancer journey. Miller also shares a bit about her new memoir, which will be published next month.
