StoryCorps: Eyes on the Stars

Interview a friend or loved one at StoryCorps; get a CD; and send one to the Library of Congress. StoryCorps, the revolutionary oral history initiative, is collecting stories of everyday people from around the country and will soon be in Tulsa for four weeks only at the Guthrie Green. Learn More about the work and mission of StoryCorps.

On January 28, 1986, NASA Challenger mission STS-51-L ended in tragedy when the shuttle exploded 73 seconds after takeoff.  On board was physicist Ronald E. McNair, who was the second African American to enter space. But first, he was a kid with big dreams in Lake City, South Carolina.
