Tulsa City Councilor Attends White House Women's Municipal Leaders Conference

Tulsa City Council

Tulsa District 2 City Councilor Jeannie Cue took a trip to the nation’s capital this week.

Cue was invited to the White House for the Women’s Municipal Leaders Conference along with officials like Monique Owens, the first black mayor of Eastpointe, Michigan, and Dawni Seymore, the first woman mayor of Ballinger, Texas.

Cue was skeptical of her email invitation at first.

"Well, at first I didn’t know if this was true or not, so I called Congressman Hern’s office and they verified it, but it’s about community development, it’s about childcare," Cue said.

Cue said the main theme of the program was community redevelopment, something she believes will lead to other improvements in Tulsa.

"That’s a priority to me, how do we redevelop our neighborhoods? And that helps improve our schools," Cue said.

Cue said she’s going to share with her council colleagues what she learned about community redevelopment from local and federal officials.

"And if there’s any type of grants or programs that they’re thinking about starting in the country, I want Tulsa to have that opportunity to be a part of that in the redevelopment of our communities," Cue said.
